+60kg Juvenile Gold -  Dom Harris
-60kg Juvenile Gold -  Kieren Hopgood
Female Mixed Silver -  Kerry Masarati
-84kg Novice Silver -  Dom Harris
-70kg Intermediate Bronze -  Shane Ruffell
-92kg Novice Bronze -  Nikolas Maschas
-77kg Novice Bronze -  Tom Baillie
-65kg Novice Bronze -  Kieren Hopgood

A huge congratulations to all the guys who competed at the weekend. Despite their young ages Kieren, Dom and Harry Ryan made the difficult step-up into the adult divisions for the first time in an open competition and conducted themselves fantastically, all winning fights. They have a bright future in the sport.  Frank Sandersan demonstrated a dangerous submission game in the intermediate division before having to withdraw due to injury. Ryan Carter won two fights via a smooth triangle to armbar combination. After 3 hard fights James Costa ceded the bronze to his teammate via the most amusing fight of the day (http://tinyurl.com/3tohap5) Kerry proved her potential and will to fight in her first grappling competition against a more experienced opponent- this is only the beginning. Daniel, Shane, Tom and Nik the Greek put on great displays of BJJ to win their medals.  All competitors displayed true Carlson Gracie spirit and made their coach very proud.

Carlson Gracie Essex also brought along a junior grappling team from Colchester, eager to put their skills to the test in tournament. They put on some great matches and clearly enjoyed themselves. Special mention to Anthony Ozer – who, at only five years old, may be one of the youngest no-gi competitors in the UK.

A massive THANK YOU to the organisers for putting on another great competition, and all the supporters from Carlson Gracie Essex who came along to help and cheer along your team mates.

Injured Paul Harper making himself useful working the table.

UCF Featherweight Title Fight

Tuesday, May 31st, 2011

This coming weekend sees Paul Harper of Carlson Gracie Essex and SDMMA challenge for the UCF featherweight title.

A Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu bluebelt, Paul is currently undeafeated in the cage with all but one of his fights ending in either an exciting submission or knockout.

Paul is taking on his biggest challenge yet, fighting the experienced Craig Allen -  a veteran of at least 15 fights.

The event takes place at Charter Hall, Colchester on Saturday 4th June. These are always very enjoyable shows with a mix of K1, boxing and MMA and are well worth attending. We hope to have a big team from Carlson Gracie Essex and SD martial arts cheering Paul on.

Tickets are £30. Please purchase in advance from Paul.

Doors open at 17:00. There is a fully licensed bar.
